Met with dept chair and secretary to discuss modifications to philosophy dept site, particularly to make things easier for potential grad students.

• Install notepad++ on Liz's computer to make it easier to edit text.
• Add list of Departmental Advisors to Contact Us page, or as separate listing in the department section.
• Replace current faculty details page with 1) page listing faculty categorized (regulary faculty, adjunct faculty, continuing sessional, other sessional) and showing for each person whether they are entitled to supervise grad students; 2) page for each individual faculty member.
• To grad courses page, keep current listing under heading "this year", add new section under heading "next year"
• Make link to "Studies in Philosophy Booklet" more prominent in the courses sections

Get information specific to potential grad students done by end of week, remaineder by end of January

Philosophy people had been adding duplicate author and publisher records to the PIR system, rather than selecting from lists of exsiting authors and publishers.

Clifton has finally normalized the existing data and modified the GUI to make it easier and more obvious to assign existing author and publisher to a new book record rather than add duplicate author or publisher records. We went over the site and confirmed that everything seems to be working and current.

Got update on Clifton on his rewrite of the department timetabler. He's now able to add instructors and courses, assign instructor to more than one department if needbe. I told him about conversation I had with History people, who are interested in using the new system, but that we should check the implementation they're using to see if there are any features they are expecting to use that we haven't planned on including. They confirm issues with online courses (system requires a timeslot), one course with one prof offered simultaneously as undergrad 499 and grad 501 level course (system doesn't allow same prof to teach two classes at same time) and issues with courses offered by two depts (e.g. hist 340 and medieval studies 340). We're working on both the GUI (Clifton hoping to implement a "folding" drill-down kind of interface, and the back-end db structure to address known limitations. Clifon's working on creating the GUI to get enough data into the db (and creating the appropriate db tables) and then will work on editing the course requests, and the reports.

Booted the audio station, tested the reel-to-reel, and did a quick capture from a tape to test functionality, ahead of a task next week.

Did a Windows installer build of 6.0.2.8 and posted it on the site.

Melanie completed a new student project for inclusion on the site. With Greg's help found the appropriate php file to edit, and it turns out the list of student projects is hard-coded and not generated automatically, so I edited the file as necessary. I actually did this work a couple of days ago, but forgot to post it.

Added new section to site for summer courses. Created new page and content and uploaded pdf poster files for courses to be offered.

Worked with Leslie and Eileen on: - showed them organization of files in history site - had them download file, edit it in text editor, upload it Process and files similar to existing practice, so they're fairly confident they can do routine text edits to site now. Also made a couple of changes to the wording on navigation items for the site and other minor changes.

I have moodle running at http://moodlebox.uvic.ca/ and have LDAP authentication working. Users can be added if we know their NetLinkID. Catherine Caws is currently set up with Fren302 as a course and will begin testing the install. Time estimate is for work-to-date on moodle deployment/configuring/testing.

Worked with Gina to get all her edited audio in to shape for upload to unix.uvic.ca. Converted to ra, mp3, wma amd pushed to server. For some reason I couldn't export ogg. Will need to revisit.
