Set up svn repo, and introduced VB to the project; he's now working on CSS for the home page.

GRS: Latin project under way again

AM and PM came by for the latter to get the former started on the next phase of the Latin site project. Copied all the requisite files over for them, and got everything installed and running.

TCCD: Added treaty location placemark

We have three location types, and I had only allowed for two. Created a third, which involved a little reconfiguration of the JSON.

TCCD: work on map placemarkers

Implemented distinct placemarkers for the federal and non-federal ridings in preparation for the designer's input on how they should look. One obvious problem emerged: fed and non-fed ridings with the same coordinates. I've worked around it for the moment by offsetting one slightly to the left and one slightly to the right, pending input from DH and FF.

TCCD: OCRed more AB_SK pages

Some of the ones done before turned out to be too low-res; new ones were uploaded and I've now OCRed them and added the results to the repo.

TCCD: Validation of HTML, errors in XML tables and elsewhere

Finally got around to adding HTML validation into the build process, and of course it threw up several types of error; a couple in XSLT generation, but most in encoding, especially nesting persNames (now disallowed by Schematron), and structuring tables. The HTML validator has nice feedback on the table structure, catching cases where the cell and row counts don't make sense. Fixed a whole pile of those sorts of issues, as well as one inconsistency in the taxonomy.

TCCD: Meeting, restructure of output routine, more OCR

Met online with DH; discussed the dev process for the designer on the website, and as a result I've restructured the output build process so that it can incorporate statically-built HTML pages, and made index.html the first of those. I still need to build in an automated download of vnu.jar (mustn't put that in the repo!) and subsequent validation of the output. I'm also now re-OCRing fresh versions of the PEI Provincial images in a temp folder; I'll merge the results back into the repo tomorrow.

BreezeMap: updated for OL4

The BreezeMap code was not functioning with OL4, so it was pinned to OL3. I've now remedied that:

  • Created a tag for the last version compatible with OL3, so that's available for anyone who needs it.
  • There were two instances of using ol.animate, now removed; these were simple pan functions which were called in Map.beforeRender (also now removed). The replacement is simply to add a duration to the options provided to the ol.View.fit() function.
  • There were two instances in my own code of style functions which made use of "this" to refer to the feature they belong to; I don't know why this actually worked in OL3, but it correctly broke in OL4. The fix was to replace "this" with "feature", which is the first parameter to the function.
  • ol.View.fit() no longer needs a map.getSize() parameter; I've commented that out.
  • The build target which downloads the latest OL version was hard-coded to version 3; rewrote that. The biggest issue turned out to be the change on my desktop to Java 8, which brings the Nashorn JS engine. Where Rhino uses importClass() to pull in Java classes, this isn't supported in Nashorn. There's a Moz compatibility shim which you can use. This gives me a clue about a similar error on Windows with the Diagnostics code.

Also updated our Campus Map site and the TEI 2017 map to use OL4.

TCCD: Tweaks to map, fix to repo

Hangout meeting with GL and DH, during which we discussed and live-fixed a few issues in the map, and planned a few more. Tickets are on the repo. Had to fix an issue with a broken rng schema inadvertently committed by an RA.
