I've now finished and documented the rhyme-finding tool, and the team are testing it. Meanwhile, there's a need to be able to nimbly merge some components of the metadata db into a small subset of the TEI files -- specifically, a single year for a single periodical -- to allow indexing fixes and updates to be propagated on a folder-by-folder basis so the encoding can proceed without running the whole massive operation. I've therefore modularized that process, and it can now be called with parameters for periodical folder and year, and tested the result successfully with Chambers 1840, which is next on the encoding list. I did the same thing to the OCR process, which usually needs to be run after the db merge process anyway. This will make life easier going forward. 240 minutes.
The search box in the banner disappears when the page width is too small; I've coded a workaround which makes a new menu item appear to replace it, and I'm now waiting for that to percolate through the build to see if it works OK. 15 minutes.
With Merna's retirement Sarah Taekema has been brought on board as the new "Admin" for non technical work at Canadian Mysteries.
Her duties include the social media aspects of the project (Twitter, newsletter writing) and also answering email. Sarah has been given access to the email account "mysteries". I gave her the credential and also changed the .htaccess file located in /teachers/guides/admin on the GUMICH server to include her netlink ID.
John says the project will continue to run down over the next two or three years.
Had to meld together four long poems into one, as a result of an indexing error that had to be corrected. In the process, I worked out a way to use the What Rhymes With functionality to find candidate existing tagged rhymes inside the poem you're currently working on, which should help speed up the rhyme labelling for longer poems. I'll show the team tomorrow. 240 minutes.
Tagged some echo figures in 1840 Chartist, and in the process refined the detection algorithm a bit to cope with full-stanza echoes.
Spent some time paper-tagging one of my interviews (not done yet) and then at the meeting demoed the plugin. Discussion led to suggestions for more categories, which I added into the schema. 120 minutes.
Uploaded my first submission for TEI 2019, with, as usual, the majority of the time spent trying to trim the abstract to 300 words. Must now write a full version for attaching to it. 60 minutes.
Created a new spreadsheet for MO at JSR's request, based on titles sold by the Custodian and their preceding titles. May need to do some additional map work, to integrate multiple existing JSON files to create a single one for each row. 180 minutes.
Added the last of the responsiveness features planned for the Close Reading site (hamburger menu thing). 30 minutes.
I was asked to make a permanent URL for Humanities Week (2019). Although the request was too close to the event for this year, they did setup a permanent URL that redirects uvic.ca/humanitiesweek to hcmc.uvic.ca/humanitiesweek. This redirect is forever.
