Leaving early.

With an account on MapBox and the "classic" version of the MapBox interface, which is an Electron app, I've been able to start customizing the Carto CSS, learning as I go; from that, you can save a .xml file which MapNik can use to build tiles. Starting from the OSM Bright stylesheet, which is nicer than the default carto one, it's quite easy to figure out how to remove and modify things. On Monday, ST and I will sit down and work out a pair of stylesheets, one for pure basics and one with some more modern layers, which we'll make available as separate layers.

I've also written a bash script which processes the XML to create JSON, and then rsyncs the entire site up to ST's own webspace on unix.uvic.ca, so she's now in control of the site.

The appearance of an invalid file that broke builds prompted me to implement a Schematron rule that checks that your document filename matches the root element's @xml:id. That then triggered a bunch of errors in the static build because we were being cavalier about that sort of thing when creating and using temporary files during the build process. I've now fixed all those errors.

I no have a working setup whereby you can specify in the interface a base rectangle for the map to initialize to, and this info is stored in a "base feature" which is never displayed. The base feature has a representation in the TEI format and is converted to GeoJSON. This is a good basis for starting the taxonomy editing setup. Did some cleanup after that with JSHint.

Busy.

JD sent a TEI file for one of her plays, which we're going to render into HTML to get the SQ site started, piloting a fresh approach for other ISE content. I wrote an ODD file which handles both her file (which I modified slightly, pending her approval) and the five MV and MND files I generated from IML just the other day. I'll work on the documentation and refinement of that ODD over a period of time till we're at the stage where everything works well and we have some good Guidelines generated from the ODD.

The addition of the new 1949 content broke the build in interesting ways, due to the presence of some anomalies such as empty num elements. After fixing the errors and adding some Schematron to avoid the problem in the future, we eventually got everything building again, and now we can see the streets files with the additional year. I had not updated the name exclusion list (names which match the Japanese name regex template but which are not Japanese) since the addition of 1943, so I went through both those years, expanding the list considerably. This is important ahead of the auto-tagging we're planning to do.
