Leaing early.
No time to report...
On TS's instructions, published the remaining 158 descriptions that were still in draft, and asked HR to run the indexer. However, some descriptions appear to still be unpublished, which is puzzling; have to investigate a bit. Also fixed a bad link on the home page.
Built the volume, with everything included except one outstanding article and the editorial intro. It comes to 276 pages right now. Also retrieved old built volumes and put them into the repo.
I have eleven colour images for the PG text, and I've now extracted them from their PDFs and integrated them into the text between two acts, per suggestion from HT. Waiting to see whether she's happy with the result.
Late duty.
Parsing of docs in the iframe to convert hol: private URIs to working JS was done with a quick hack, but I've now implemented it properly with an event listener. That means it also triggers for documents loaded through simple links in other documents. ST also reported that this functionality was failing on Safari, but I've tested it thoroughly tonight and it seems to work fine.
We've determined that it's not practical to use the MapBox Classic editing tool to create styles and then generate tiles from them, because the resulting project.xml file does not contain any of the required SQL for pulling data from the PostgreSQL database. Instead, this is what we need to do:
- Clone the OSM Bright repo from https://github.com/mapbox/osm-bright.git.
- Customize the mms files to make the changes we want. There's going to be a certain amount of trial and error here, unfortunately, so a quick-and-dirty small-scale rendering job would be a good testbed.
- Download the land polygon files from OSM, unzip them and run shapeindex on them as instructed in the readme file in OSM Bright.
- PROBABLY NOT NEEDED: Create configure.py from configure.py.sample, providing the dbname (which is "gis"); I don't think any other info is needed. Also configure the project name.
- Run
carto osm-bright.osm2pgsql.mml > osm-bright.xmlin the osm-bright subfolder. This should create the XML for Mapnik, configured with the correct PostgreSQL select statements. - Build some tiles with that on the tile server, using generate_tiles.py.
This is gnarly and untested. Will edit as appropriate.
Following on from this post, I'm now trying to render tilesets using a setup based on the OSM Bright 2 CSS, which is nicer than other options. This entails installing more fonts:
- Open Sans Regular
- Open Sans Bold
- Open Sans Italic
- Open Sans Semibold
These can all be got with WGET from this site, then you can copy them to /usr/share/fonts/truetype/opensans (new dir), then run sudo fc-cache -f -v to refresh the font cache.
Ready for proofing.
