Finished one presentation, created templates and build process for distro, created doc type definition, transformation, and other stuff. We're about half done, I think.
CC rewrote the About page, which prompted me to fix those site pages in their XML format rather than continuing to maintain them in HTML. The whole dataset is now TEI.
Today I blew up a couple of the apps and had to restart them, through doing this the wrong way. When you have a new XAR to deploy:
- Use Chrom*, not FF.
- Connect over the internal URL on :8080.
- Upload the new package.
- If it goes wrong and you see an error message, the chances are the db is now set to read-only.
- If that happens, try shutting down the db from the web interface. If that works, restart it from /etc/init.d/jetty. If it fails, you may need to kill all the relevant processes on Peach before restarting.
With these big XARs, we may need to consider testing an alternative process where we uninstall the old XAR and then put the new one in the autodeploy folder before restarting eXist.
The Colonial Despatches project is pleased to announce that all documents for the year 1864 have now been published for general access on the website. Starting here you can read the entire correspondence from images of the original document pages or annotated transcriptions.
Too much work, not enough time...
Today I went through the process of pulling a batch of OCRed docs from the repo (already organized by AM) and turning it into TEI, then doing the name markup. As expected, the name markup takes only a couple of minutes per page; the other stuff is the difficult bit. Rebuilt the site, and then we had a project Hangout meeting and discussed CSS etc. with the designer.
There were some fallout issues from the footnote stuff yesterday, so I've fixed some rogue notes which should have been other things, and tweaked the XSLT. When I went to update last night, the process failed because we were out of disk space; jetty-instances had only 30GB. RE has now doubled that, and I was able to update Mariage with no problem.
A bit of debugging and tweaking for a rogue image filename.
Work on the website, on the map, on getting info about printing, updating to-do list, and so on.
PM has been working assiduously on Saga.local to rewrite the Wheelock units, and today we built the first six and posted them for MN to OK before we proceed. They're in hrd/latin/new_wheelock. The data is all on Saga, but PM is backing up for himself, and I've got the first six units locally.
