Long day getting submission for conference written amidst continual interruptions; needed to keep pushing forward with TCCD stuff too.
Some answers from DH on questions about the placeography. It's now converting nicely into XML, and I've reworked some of the structure to make it more sane and finally valid. Dating attributes are now on the location element, as they really should be, and I'm using the region and district elements respectively for province and riding.
PC had to move machines, and we had trouble getting wine installed on the new one because the apt server was borked (hash sum mismatches). GN fixed it, but there was more work than expected in getting all the old data over from the old machine and arranged in the way it had bee, so it would work properly. If we do this again, I need to set up a complete working build tree in a single folder that's easy to transfer.
Finally got a chance to write my own submission for the conference. One hour to write it, half an hour to encode it (using jTEI -- found and reported a rendering bug) and 90 minutes to aggressively cut it down to the limit of 300 words. Grrr.
Prep for and participation in. Notes will be in SVN eventually.
I've now written a converter for the Google spreadsheet for electoral ridings, and it seems to be working OK; there are some outstanding questions about specific instances of data (missing dates etc.), but once those are answered, I can pull that data into the repo. After that, it's a question of matching people in the personography to places, then generating JSON for the map from that combined set.
Contacting more hotels and dinner venue possibilities for discussion at tomorrow's planning committee meeting.
LR started work today. I've created a detailed Google Doc laying out the expected progress of the work, and we spent an hour getting everything set up and booking time.
PROJECT PLANS, MAY 2017
Preliminary stuff Trish does first:
- creating all the multiple-size versions now allowed following agreement from Danish National Library.
Stage 1: Specification for the new site menu and image array:
- Main menu must work on all devices.
- Thumbnail array should use grid layout and be flexible for all devices.
Display all images in grid layout.
Each image has a descriptive caption (currently @title).
When an image is clicked on, the grid disappears, and is replaced by a button for "Show thumbnails".
The record appears.
When you click on "Show thumbnails", all the images appear again above the current record.
Stage 2: Move data into svn (XML, not images).
Stage 3: Redesign pages in HTML5.
Stage 4: Write build process to create pages.
Stage 5: Implement Jenkins build.
Stage 6: Implement XAR creation in build process.
Stage 7: Roll out new eXist and test.
Stage 8: Replace original app.
