posting minutes worked on Report form GUI created
Worked with Stew to build the GUI for the stats report generator. Populated all the controls by querying the database through the B2Evo DB object. Seems to be working well.
Next steps:
- Write JavaScript code to build SQL statement based on form field values.
- Import and adapt AJAX code from ScanCan or Moses project and plug it into the hcmc_functions.js library.
- Add a progress bar to the page.
- Hook up the form-generated SQL to the AJAX submission system.
- Write the PHP handler on the back end to generate the report data (XHTML) from the submitted SQL.
- Write the JS code to drop the report XHTML into the page.
Confirmed meeting with Dean Rippin and set agenda.
Reviewed existing Humanities site to see what's there now.
Dean mentioned use of UVic templates for site, so requested web coordinator to send me a copy of those and any related documentation.
Set up folders and permissions on gradapps account to allow for archiving from year to year and to allow for similar projects in sibling folders (Stephen Ross mentioned they might want something similar for MA and for certain staff appointment competitions).
Uploaded files.
Created .htaccess file for restricting access.

We need a DVD player to add to the media cart for the labs.
I'm looking for a region-free DVD player that will play PAL and NTSC without a converter, like this one.
I'll talk to City Centre T.V. (477-6971) in University Heights.
There was a good deal of confusion regarding the use of the video playback system so I have changed the existing setup in Lab C. To simplify things I have disconnected the TV/vcr cart from the teachers console in Lab C. It is now just a TV/vcr on a cart. Strangely, though, the speakers on the TV don't work at all, so I've added a set of speakers to the cart.
This cart will live in the projection room and service both labs.
A DVD player will be purchased and added to this cart.
We need to flesh out the chapter plan, once we have some feedback from Ana, assigning word-counts to the sections.
Stewart and I worked on a basic outline for the chapter on Hot Potatoes we've been asked to submit for Ana Gimeno-Sans's book on authoring tools:
-
Assembled old presentations and old versions of Hot Potatoes for the historical data.
- Wrote an outline in seven major parts.
- Wrote to Ana including the outline, and a paragraph about what we think might be the most interesting aspects, and asking for a ballpark word count requirement.
- some method for securing the TV to the cart, preferably a screw-down restraint system
- a better lock in the bottom cabinet, or at least a key for the existing one
- air-filled tires. The hard ones are jarring on electronic equipment when driven over a bump
- a plate for mounting the camera. It can be screwed down in front of the TV.
- to have the top shelf lowered to the minimum height - very straightforward
