Had meeting with MH (MS) yesterday re navigation planning of new LAS site. Will meet again next week with MH, BAK to discuss more plan details.
Troubleshooting a content issue sent in by a user, I discovered that in fixing a previous bug I'd introduced a new one; it was a straightforward fix once I'd figured it out. Links in popups are now working again.
Got all the links in the timeline working, so that all the timeline content will be accessible once it's all converted. Then used Tidy to convert one of the old files:
tidy -output timeline_1795_1815_TIDIED.html -asxhtml -clean -gdoc -numeric -utf8 timeline_1795_1815.html
to pre-process the first document so that it's amenable to XSLT, and then gradually hacked away at some XSLT until I had output that I could simply copy/paste into the content documents, with only one or two errors to fix by the end. This is good progress; tomorrow I should be able to do a whole new year.
I also looked at the image problem -- vast numbers of them, in various formats, with dupes and horrible filenames. First of all, I made the build code copy only the images which are actually linked from the documents being processed. This works nicely to clean up the output, but we should also be able to use it to clean up the contents of the repo by identifying images which are never linked. I don't want to add them all to the repo and then prune them later, so I'll work in stages, having the image listing code produce an svn add command list I can run as I add new content and new images are used. Then for the larger versions, they can be done manually.
Franklin site has four standard sizes for the image of each object in the archive: original as provided, 1024px wide, 500px wide, 100x100px thumbnail. In the archive/imageImages folder of the site, there are subfolders original, thumbnail, 1024 and 500
For the batch of new images from Parks Canada, I created a new folder for each size containing the original images. I then
cd into the 500 folder
sips --resampleWidth 500 *.jpg [image is 500px wide by Ypx high to maintain aspect ratio of original]
cd into the 1024 folder
sips --resampleWidth 1024 *.jpg [image is 1024px wide by Ypx high to maintain aspect ratio of original]
cd into the thumbnail folder
sips --resampleHeightWidth 100 100 *.jpg [image is 100px wide by 100px high, aspect ratio will be sacrificed - image distorted]
Then I copied those images into the appropriate subfolder in the archive/imageImages folder
<note> element. Each altered file was diffed and checked for accuracy--there were a few instances of bad pointers (it seems that a few TLNs changed in some of the documents, so the entire annotation set was off by 2-3 TLNs) which I had to hand-fix. In a bit late but stayed doubly late. Lots of work on Scancan and Keats to push forward with.
Met with KB, discussed progress, made a couple of style decisions now implemented; worked on the creation of all the landing pages which will be needed but which don't have content (now working).
