At Dot Porter's request, I did a stripped-down version of our CASTA 2006 workshop on styling XML with CSS for the DHSI workshop group. Took a little while digging out handouts and printing ahead of time.
Finished marking up the latest article, and posted it on the site. One oddity: it has abbreviations, which we usually handle through an automatic system, but because the expansions are things such as document titles which need styling, they can't be expressed in an @expan attribute; that means I had to do them manually. This would be better in P5, because <expan> is a tag in P5.
Every single one of those pages works perfectly except for the faq page. For some reason it does not post the full contents of the text field and it adds "%3" to the end of the file.
To end the day I am going to make a local backup of my work. Tomorrow I plan to test the faq page to figure out why this it is acting differently. Also I am going to be reviewing the website to ensure that all the newly added functionality is correctly implemented and reassess the completion status. From what I understand I have to add the course materials link on the dynamic course_by_prof.php page.
I also received an email from Stewart regarding the Agenda project. Liz has a few recommendations for Agenda website that I am going to be looking into to see how easily they can (if they can) be implemented and present a report back to Stewart before moving forward with any changes. I want to make sure that whatever changes will not negatively affect any other department using this web application.
Reviewed technical docs and prepared outline of points specific to this audience's interest in interface design issues and in using graphical metaphors as front-ends to query a database of texts.
Then did presentation with Janelle for an hour, moving from the large photocopy through the static html through the xml database with plain images and with mapserver interface.
Ended up staying late demoing the IMT to DHSI attendees.
In and out of the DHSI workshop; meeting with Syd and Dot re TEI/image markup stuff; demonstrating the IMT to workshop attendees.
Reached page 24 out of 33 in the current article.
