Museums and the Web addresses the social, cultural, design, technological, economic, and organizational issues of culture, science and heritage on-line. Taking an international perspective, the MW program reviews and analyzes the issues and impacts of networked cultural, natural and scientific heritage.

Proposals are invited from professionals and researchers in all areas actively exploring the creation, on-line presentation and use of cultural, scientific and heritage content, and its re-use and evaluation.

Digital Medievalist: Call for Reviewers

We are in the process of compiling a list of referees for our journal articles and reviewers for digital editions and digitally-related books. If you would be interested in acting as a referee and/or reviewer, please write to us at editors@digitalmedievalist.org and give us your position and institutional affiliation, and a brief description of your interests and specializations. This will allow us to assign reviewers and referees based on their fields of specialization and their availability, meaning you can be very precise in what you wish to review and how frequently.

The next version of Firefox, currently in Alpha 2, has some fabulous new features, including integrated video support (HTML 5) and presumably audio as well. We need to get working with this to do some bug reporting and find out how it can help us avoid (e.g.) Flash in future. I've got it installed on a VM, because it's pretty unstable, and doing that involved updating the VM twice, but once that's all squared away we can start creating some test materials to find out what it can actually do. (For instance, does it have some codecs built in, and if so, which are they? Can it use any codecs on your machine?)

Continuing my port from PEAR to native mysql functions in PHP, I've now got the keyword and project systems able to add new items through the Web GUI. Had to work around a new limitation in JQuery: buttons included in a JQuery UI dialog box must be created/managed by the dialog box itself; if you just drop them into the div from which the dialog is created, they end up disconnected from their methods.

Once I'd got that working, I started work on the delete functionality. I have the site sending all the right data to the server, and the server is reporting receipt of it correctly through the debug mechanisms; now I need to make sure that the correct records are deleted from the core table and the linked table.

Got new data inserted into the beta version of CityStats after JD pointed out that the reason it wasn't going in was that I'd restricted the user permissions so it couldn't create tables. Doh. Also updated the BC Studies CFP info for JS-R.

I was planning to write a back-to-school blog this weekend, with information about some free online tools for students and instructors. ReadWriteBlog has beaten me to it with a great list of this year's most useful web applications for students.
