DR reported a user as noting that the Back button didn't work on the Hispanital site home page. This was because if you went to the root of the site, http://web.uvic.ca/hispanital/, you were redirected (via JavaScript) to the actual home page, which is at http://web.uvic.ca/hispanital/home/index.htm. After that, if you pressed the back button in some browsers (I think Opera might have been the culprit, or IE6), you'd go back to the JavaScript page, and then bounce back again to the home page.
I've now done a bit of research, and implemented a new solution which seems to work in Opera, IE, Safari and Firefox, according to my testing. The first approach I tried was a meta refresh tag in the header of the page. That worked for Firefox and Safari, but not for Opera or IE. Finally, I've gone with PHP. There's now a PHP page called index.php in the root of the account, and that sends an HTTP header resetting the location:
<?php Header( "Location: http://web.uvic.ca/hispanital/home/index.htm" ); ?>
According to my testing, that works for all browsers; the PHP page is never stored in the history, so pressing the Back button takes you to the page you were on before arriving at the PHP page.
