Fixed the bug which was causing abstracts do disappear on a page accessed through a search. It was a trivial bug, but took a while to find because I'd confused myself by leaving and old version of an XQuery file in the tree, alongside a new one with a slightly different name. Doh.

In the process, though, I finally set up a local copy of the site running in my local Tomcat, which makes for easier debugging and dev work.

Reorganized the code as planned in the previous post, so that we can properly segregate the user and editor areas without duplicating code. This was worth doing because it will carry over into BI's project. Also rewrote the handling of link fields, to avoid long links from URLs, and finished the RSS feed features we'll need for the GRS site. Entered a few more items as part of the testing procedure. I think we're basically ready to go now.

None of the example sentences in dictegs in affix.xml have been phonemicized.

When/if Ewa adds these phonemicizations, she will also need to move the <bibls> for the attested examples, so that they refer to the narrow transcription and the gloss, not the whole <quote>.

Created the first RSS feed for the GRS Journal code; this one just shows the ten latest updates. Another will be created which lists all the contents.

I've also started to reorganize the code, since it's likely that this db will have an open user area (read-only) and a closed editor area. I've moved the admin and db directories into an editor directory, and put the RSS feed in a user directory; access control is on the editor directory rather than its parent. This makes the RSS feed public. However, I want to do more:

• The core db functionality and the local_classes files need to be accessible from the public area so we can use them to generate public views of the data, so they should probably be moved to user.
• The files which explicitly allow editing from the current admin directory can just sit in editor, along with the connect file. There is another connect file in the user directory which uses different credentials with no write privileges.
• The connect file needs to be split into the authentication data and another file with the retrieval code; the latter can be in the public area, but the editor's version of the former needs to be protected.

Once these changes are made, and the relative paths all adjusted, we should have a system with a nice access-control mechanism, with all the key definitions in only one location.

I just tried to find the Unicode characters for the mid-central [a] and the back [ɑ]. The former is LATIN SMALL LETTER a 0061, and the latter is LATIN SMALL LETTER ALPHA, 0251.

BUT when I copied and pasted the "back a" character which is used throughout the xml files, from Oxygen into the character palette search box, it turned out it IS LATIN SMALL LETTER a 0061!

So this is just a font problem in Oxygen, and we don't have to find and replace anything in the data. The character does display correctly as mid-central [a] on the database website.

The Thorsen article is now marked up, and available on the proofing page. Six of the film articles are now available for proofing. Also, as JT and I discussed, the articles and reviews for volume 18 have now been published on the website, moving them from the proofing area to the main site where everyone can see them.
