The Week that Was
Hi y'all (see I'm gearing up for the American Canada Day) hope you had a good long weekend.
My week last week was mainly wrapping up the archives visits. Monday was the meeting and some secondary source research, and then Tuesday I worked from home as I was sick so mainly did research for my write-ups, Wednesday was the Esquimalt Archives with Ashley which turned out some really interesting and amazing areas of future research, and then Wednesday afternoon-Friday was at the BC Archives looking at the BC Electric Railroad Company files which I think are far more interesting and relevant to Victoria than the coal industry (which was mainly Nanaimo). I also looked up the Jordan River Power Plant files and found some great photos from one of the largest building projects of the decade. There is also great tie in with social organizations and sporting life in that area. This week's plan is a final day or two at the BC Archives to re-photograph some of the Crease files and to finish up the last of the fonds I have time to look at, and then Friday I will be in HCMC working on Archive uploads and transcriptions/write-ups.
Ashley/Jim: An idea I've had for the letters/other transcribed items is to put them in individual folders in the archive with each image having the same file name (with "a" and "b" following to distinguish order). I think this is best to keep them in some semblance of organization instead of using PDF and to ensure images stay with texts when being uploaded, and it helps having them in one place when being uploaded. Thoughts?
Ashley: I will check those church life photos later and will get back to you. I'll also look for the Anglican Gazette piece you wanted. Have you sorted the Oak Bay Dropbox issue, because I've never emailed her back...
