Rivers

Posted by sophie on 19 Jan 2015 in Activity log
Hi Lauren or Laurel, I found the post by Simon about marking up the rivers who are both geographical locations and active characters in both files but is there some way for us to connect the xml:place and the xml:character for the two? I have connected Xanthos the place with Xanthos the river character who will battle Achilles in bk 21 as an example but do we believe that the river is water standing and battling or that it is a personification of the river? How should we mark this up? Also Homer has dropped the bomb that the river/god Xanthos(known to gods as) is the same as the river/god Scamander(known to mortals). Are these in fact the same character/place? The coordinates for Xanthos are from Pleiades but they could be these coordinates http://pleiades.stoa.org/places/639167/?searchterm=xanthos* Both Scamander and Xanthos coordinates are from region boxes. They could theoretically match. Are we going to condense and make them the same river/god? also changed "can" to "call" in same sentence even though all Butlers I found use the bad english "can".
