Reference Checks on Varin:
Posted by lauren on 29 Oct 2009 in Academic
I spent this morning checking the references in the Varin to make sure that they showed up. I found a lot of mistakes (simply because the xml:id spelling had changed for many of them), but I was able to correct most of these myself. However, there are still some problems that need fixing as well as some questions I have:
- The notes 1 and 2 that appear at the top of the title page for the Varin contain information that is written inside the cover onto the page. I feel like these should actually not be notes -- how should I encode them? It's basically just written information for the library that appears at the bottom of the title page.
- In the description of the image on the front of the title page, I also realized that I used English quotation marks around the Latin phrases. I am thinking I should change these to
foreign xml:lang="la"tags ... MH? Is this the way to go?
Things needing fixing:
- MH, on pages 14-15 and lower down on 15-16, as well as page 52, ALL of the text is underlined as if it were a reference, and when I click on things that should be references within the underlined paragraph, nothing is coming up. I have checked my XML in all three places and it looks correct.
- In
note12 in the Varin, when I click on the Lucain reference, not only does the Lucain reference come up, but possibly all the other references in a file (you can perpetually scroll down and read about a whole bunch of other people in the references.xml file within the "Lucain" pop-up window). - In the pop-up windows, my links to websites for "Deiphobus" (p. 23 of Varin), "Belus" (p. 30), "Zenon" (p. 70), "Getulie" -- not the Wikipedia link but the Imago Mundi one -- (p. 72) don't work.
- Additionally, for the "Neptune" reference (p. 153 of Varin), I included a
ref type="reference" target="references.xml#poseidonlink embedded within theptags of the reference itself, because Poseidon has a longer definition in the reference file. However, this link, too, does not seem to be working.
I would also like to thank CC for her feedback yesterday -- I still need to work through my paragraph separations in the Varin text, as well as many more formatting things. I could spend years on this text!
