I've extended the feature set to include a more detailed search.
When users click on a Character name (for example) a query is run that finds all events associated with that character and displays the list in an external (to the popup) container. It works, but the styling is terrible and needs major reworking. The code appears to work for other "sub-searches" like groups but I haven't started to test it properly.
