Mapping our feature structures to GOLD
Posted by mholmes on 03 Oct 2012 in Activity log
I've begun the process of mapping our feature structures onto the GOLD ontology, using the @dcr:datcat and @dcr:valueDatcat attributes in TEI, based on unique identifiers from the ISOCat.org version of GOLD 2010. Here I'll gather together a list of concepts which are difficult to map or for which no obvious terms appear in GOLD; based on this, we'll contact the GOLD maintainers for advice.
- Our concept of "linking-element" seems to have no clear equivalent. This is a bound morpheme which appears between two base morphemes simply for the purpose of joining them. An analogy in Russian would be the "o" on балто-славянская. The example in our case is xml:id="aɬ", described as "compounding element; appears between two stems in a compound word".
- GOLD seems to have no term for "loanword". This is difficult to believe, so I'm still searching for likely possibilities.
