It came to my attention today that when doing a fresh build of an existing machine I end up with a duplicate in the Ghost console (makes sense as the heartbeat interval is set to announce itself every 20 seconds, so the "new" lab-b-01 announces itself while the "old" lab-b-01 is also announcing itself. The console only registers MAC addresses so it thinks that a new machine has joined the club.) The console told me that I've used 90% or more of the existing licenses and it will stop looking for new machines when I've reached the license limit.

So, I'm building the new machines offline (with BartPE) and only bringing them online when the old machine is powered down.

DVD drive install:
To remove the DVD drive from an existing machine takes about 3 minutes.
Putting it in the new machine takes about 15 because I need to:
Pull the case off
Blow out the dust (these things are filthy)
Remove the brace
Remove the HDD/FDD cage
Clip the zap strap holding the IDE cables together
Pop the coverplate off a drive bay
Hacksaw the cage to bend part of it down
Bend and twist the upper bit to break it free
Insert the DVD drive
Screw it in
Make the DVD drive master and the CDRW slave
Plug in data and power cables
Replace the HDD/FDD drive cage
Replace the brace
Replace the case

Need to rebuild BartPE with E1000/E100/RTSND drivers
Need to pull fresh image from an updated, new machine - bloody MS released updates the day after I pulled my image!
