Character: Tantalus

Posted by matthew on 05 Dec 2011 in Activity log
In the characters.xml file there are 2 entries for Tantalus, tantalus_1 is the father of Niobe (niobe_2) and spouse of Clytaemnestra, and tantalus_2 has no details. In Apollod. 3.5.6 the myth of Amphion and Niobe, daughter of Tantalus (tantalus_1), marrying and having children, one of which is also named Tantalus (tantalus_2) all of these children are in turn killed by Apollo and Artemis. Later on, in Apollod. Epitome 1.12.15 Tantalus is listed as the son of Thyestes who was slain with his newborn by Agamemnon so he could take Clytaemnestra for himself. This Tantalus is listed as tantalus_1, is this correct? i.e. is Tantalus father of Niobe the same as Tantalus son of Tyestes? Furthermore, in Epitome 1.2.1 there is the tale of Tantalus being punished in Hades for trying to take ambrosia from the gods. Which Tantalus is this?
