Note to self: if you set @flags="!" in xsl:analyze-string, you can trigger full Java regex support in Oxygen, which means things like \b work. This was essential for us in doing the automated name markup, which works a treat (see XSLT document in repo), although I think it could be speeded up with some xsl:keys. Probably.
