Agonizing XP VM build

Posted by gregster on 18 Oct 2010 in Labs

Building an up-to-date vm for people that need a Windows VM.
There are at least two screwy updates that create a black-screen-of-death after rebooting.
Tracking it down update-by-update is giving me a twitch, but I've narrowed it down to:
KB981852 and KB956572. Both are Windows Security updates (a local authenticated user can take control of your machine, etc...).
Installing *either* one of them will render the VM unusable.
There are no hits when I look at the VirtualBox forums for either patch.
