Alex Dunae created the original search engine and database query forms in 2003. He also developed many other features of this web site. In the Fall of 2005 and the Spring of 2006, the site was rebuilt at the Humanities Computing and Media Centre external (HCMC) at the University of Victoria by David Badke. The rebuilt web site includes an all-new database and search engine that allows the data to be searched in several ways across all available years. The new viHistory site was developed in conjunction with the Text Analysis Research Portal (TAPoR) external at the University of Victoria.

In 2011, the site was enlarged and revised with the assistance of HCMC programmer/consultant Jamie Nay.
