The Making Early Middle English conference obtained special rates at two downtown Victoria hotels. September is part of Victoria’s tourist season, so these rates were especially good for this time of year. We advised booking accommodations 60 days or more in advance of the conference. We were unable to guarantee rates or availability within 30 days of the conference.

Both conference hotels were located in Victoria’s Inner Harbour, within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants, US ferry and Vancouver seaplane arrivals, and beautiful waterfront walks, and about a 40-minute drive from the airport (see the Travel page for more information on transportation from the airport). On conference days, shuttles were available to take conference participants from the Hotel Grand Pacific to the University of Victoria campus.

The Hotel Grand Pacific was the main conference hotel. The majority of our group-rate rooms were blocked off at this hotel, which also hosted our banquet dinner event on the Saturday evening (September 24). The per night rate was $189 CAD (approx. $146 USD or £102 GBP). For convenience, the hotel provided a quick summary sheet (PDF) with details on its location and many amenities.

Some rooms were also blocked off at the nearby Harbour Towers Hotel for a group rate of $135 CAD per night (approx. $105 USD or £73 GBP). If available, larger suites could be booked at the Harbour Towers for between $155 and $215 CAD per night (approx. $120-$166 USD or £83-116 GBP). Suites (but NOT the standard $135 room) included breakfast.
