Lots of work to do on the History site if we're to meet our deadline, added to the usual churn -- meetings, timesheets etc. In the middle of all this, we're trying to get a rather complicated Jenkins build setup going, which is taking some research.

First day back, lots of catching up to do. While I'm here, these are things I'm not logging -- I'm treating them as personal contributions to the TEI, rather than UVic contributions: two travel days, several hours of G&T arising out of very long work days Nov 9-11, and several hours of follow-up work after the meeting.

Greg and Jamie both away early so I was on lates; then I got stuck with a massively invalid XML file that had to be fixed before I could leave it alone.

Reorganizing backups. I had several backup files which had been set to --perms, which pushed read-only files up to the server, which then couldn't overwrite them later. This happened with .svn files particularly. Removed --perms, chmodded everything on the server to u+w, and then was able to do backups.

Went to see a very cool demo of print-on-demand at the bookstorem which pushed the day back a bit, and then I wanted to confirm that my recent updates hadn't broken TEI again.

Work is just piling up -- wouldn't have signed up for at least three things if I'd known SA was going to be absent.

Just about to leave when venerable colleagues from the Smithsonian dropped by unexpectedly, resulting in discussions of online editions and databases.

Lots of meetings combined with the need to keep the Mallarmé team productive meant I had to stay late and finish some work.

After lots of the day was taken up with routine admin stuff (managing RAs and their files, setting them up on different machines, back-and-forth about accounting issues, etc.) I felt I couldn't actually leave until I'd been able to write some code for a change.

Stayed very late, but lost an hour during the afternoon on the phone to Rogers, so only one extra hour G&T. Couldn't leave till an OAI update operation in eXist was completed.
